About the blogTo keep you as far as possible up to date on parallel narrative and craft skills generally, I've created a blog about the craft of structuring film and TV scripts, particularly those that use parallel narrative. Parallel narrative is a complicated thing to get your head around. It needs a whole new mindset, and the way to get that is to look at examples. In the blog I provide examples - so that you can get the hang of the various paradigms by seeing them in action, seeing what subject matter they're good for, seeing when and when not to use them, and observing their practical mechanics. That way you're ready to use them in your scripts if you need to, fully understanding your narrative options. I point out how the films conform to the various parallel narrative types. I also point out any innovations and any problem areas. I give,too,wide-ranging tips on things like plotting, characterisation and general survival in the script development process. I'm hoping that the blog can work in conjunction with this website and my book The 21st Century Screenplay (which supercedes Screenwriting Updated) to provide an ongoing resource and meeting place for the discussion of screenwriting of all kinds, but particularly parallel narrative. I hope you like it. http://blog.lindaaronson.info Linda Aronson |
